Coronavirus is not single virus but ,Coronaviruses(CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ,common cold to more severe diseases such as
- Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV)
- Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV)
- A novel coronavirus (nCoV)
Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans , that is coronavirus are getting transmitted among animal and human . Hence it is zoonotic , meaning it can be transferred among animal and people !
First described in detail in the 1960s, the coronavirus gets its name from a distinctive corona or 'crown' of sugary-proteins
What are the symptoms of a coronavirus?
Coronaviruses can give rise to a variety of symptoms in different animals. While some strains cause diarrhoea in pigs and in turkeys, most of the time infections can be compared to a bad cold, causing mild to moderate upper respiratory problems such as a runny nose and sore throat.
Common signs of infection include

- In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia
